Tucker Touchette - Ishmael blog 1

I would much rather live in a house than run away and live in the wild, but growing your own food and having a self sustaining environment is definitely the best way to live. That way you have enough food for you and your family, plus your carbon footprint (effect on the environment) would be much less severe, because there wouldn't be large shipments of food being shipped across the country in gas hogging trucks.
It is a long process for a can of corn to reach a supermarket shelf from a farm. First the farmer must take all of the time and efforts to grow the corn and harvest it then the corn is sent to a processing facility to be canned. This is where some corn is discarded  if it doesn't meet company standards. Then the kernel is taken off the cob and canned  then shipped out in semi trucks to our super markets. A better way to obtain corn is to buy from a local grower because you know where the corn is coming from and your also supporting local businesses.
If i were to walk to the store and buy four bananas it would cost me about one dollar and fifteen cents if bananas are 75 cents a pound. It would take about 10 minutes to make that much money at minimum wage plus twenty minutes walking to the store and back. If someone lives in the forest and goes out to pick a bundle of bananas they can take as many as they want for free because its a natural recourse that regrows in time. Having food that is shipped from other areas of the world is an unnecessary luxury for us.
